Zendaya Avoids Uncomfortable Question About Kisses During Challengers Press Tour
During the Challengers press tour, Zendaya was confronted with a sensitive question regarding intimate moments, which she artfully sidestepped.
Zendaya impeccably navigates the press circuit, whether gracing the red carpet or engaging in conversations with journalists.
Throughout April, she globe-trotted with co-stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor to promote their upcoming film Challengers, captivating audiences with her grace. Her stunning Challengers premiere ensembles dazzled, and her candid interview with Vogue offered a rare glimpse into her life.
Similar to her experience during the Dune: Part Two promotional tour, probing inquiries about on-screen intimacy have become a recurring theme.
Interviewer Edwina Bartholomew from ‘Sunrise’ inquired which co-star was a more skilled kisser. Zendaya, visibly surprised by the query, leaned back with a puzzled expression. Her decision to remain silent could have been interpreted as a momentary lapse in hearing the question.
Mike intervened, playfully stating that Josh possessed superior kissing prowess, attempting to diffuse the unease and shield Zendaya from such inquiries. She chuckled at the exchange and quipped, “Imma let y’all take that.”
Likewise, at the Dune: Part Two premiere in France, Zendaya fielded a question about filming a kissing scene with her co-star Timothée Chalamet.
Once again, she brushed off the question before responding, “Well I think it’s our job. So no it’s not, I think it’s not our first rodeo and we have an incredible director that, you know, helps guide the scenes and we’re in such good hands and so well supported.”
Willy Wonka star Timothée wasn’t exempt from scrutiny either. Speaking from the red carpet, he remarked that the experience wasn’t peculiar “because we’re you know pushing thirty and have been great friends for years, so it’s just the nature of the job on this one. And the nature of the script, it’s not more complicated than that.”
Both Zendaya and Timothée faced questioning from Entertainment Tonight regarding the authenticity of their kissing scenes, adamantly refuting any suggestion that it felt natural, as Timothée emphasized their strictly “platonic” bond.
Despite Zendaya acknowledging, “it’s a little weird”, the duo reiterated their professionalism, with Timothée quipping, “We are so tight now that it really just is another day at work.”
“I don’t know what that says about the nature of our job,” he jokingly added.
During the filming of Challengers, Zendaya revealed that she and her co-stars established a ‘secure’ environment by training together daily, fostering a sense of camaraderie.
She also attributed the success of their intimate scenes to the presence of an intimacy coordinator.
