‘Riverdale’ will Conclude after its Seventh Season

One of the things that make The CW’s Riverdale intriguing is its seemingly innocuous premise as a live-action interpretation of the classic Archie comics. However, upon closer inspection, the series delves into the realm of the bizarre. Throughout its run, Riverdale has showcased Archie transitioning into a criminal, Jughead staging his own demise, numerous serial killers, and even an entanglement with a cult. Despite its peculiarities, this dramatic twist has propelled the show to unexpected success, spanning six seasons to date.

Recently, it has been revealed that Riverdale will wrap up with its seventh season, scheduled to premiere in CW’s midseason of 2023, marking the conclusion of the series.

“I am a firm advocate for providing long-running series with a fitting farewell. In a detailed discussion with Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] yesterday, he expressed his enthusiasm for this decision,” stated CW head honcho Mark Pedowitz to Deadline, emphasizing that “seven years is the ideal duration.”

“We intend to give the show the respect it deserves. As an iconic figure in pop culture, we are committed to ensuring that it concludes in a befitting manner.”

Reflecting on this development, Cole Sprouse, one of the key cast members, shared thoughts on the potential culmination of the series in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in December 2021. “It has been an exhilarating journey,” expressed Sprouse. “I consider myself fortunate that the audience embraced the show, offering a remarkable platform for all the young actors involved. When the series eventually concludes, we will look back and appreciate the immense opportunity it provided for us.”
