‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’ Surpasses Previous Film’s Records
During the 90s and 2000s, the common belief was that adapting a video game into a film was bound to fail, especially due to major box office failures like The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, in recent times, video game movies have been improving, thanks to enhanced visual effects and a stronger dedication to the original material. While most of these movies still don’t break the bank, they are faring better than before. In 2020, Sonic The Hedgehog set a new benchmark for video game movies, showcasing the potential of creating a successful film based on a game.
But today, that record has been overtaken by none other than Sonic himself! Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has outperformed its predecessor at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing video game movie of all time. The sequel has raked in $71 million in the domestic market, surpassing the original film’s $58 million earnings. When combined with international sales, the movie has grossed a total of $141 million.
