The household of President Joe Biden in the United States is widely recognized for their love of animals. They currently care for two German Shepherds, Commander and Major. While Commander resides in the White House, Major was returned to the Biden family residence due to behavioral challenges. The family previously had a third German Shepherd, Champ, who passed away at the age of 13 in June.

Today, the Bidens have welcomed a new addition to their family, but this time, it’s a cat, not a dog. The newest member is a two-year-old Tabby cat named Willow, a homage to First Lady Jill Biden’s hometown, Willow Grove in Pennsylvania. As per the First Lady’s press secretary, Michael LaRosa, President Biden’s first encounter with Willow was during his 2020 campaign tour when the cat unexpectedly joined him on stage. Observers noted that a quick bond formed between the two.

Willow has been in foster care for several months in preparation for her White House residency and recently moved in with the First Family, sharing space with Commander. LaRosa stated, “Willow is adjusting to the White House environment with her beloved toys, treats, and ample space for exploration.”

This marks the return of a cat to the White House under a presidential family since the tenure of George W. Bush, who had a cat named India.
