Wednesday Season 2: All You Need To Know About Release Date, Cast And More
Netflix’s Wednesday? We are captivated and eagerly anticipating more. Wednesday season 2 WHEN????
Featuring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams herself, the series directed by Tim Burton (co-created alongside Alfred Gough and Miles Millar) narrates the tale of a teenager unraveling a perilous mystery linked to her new school, her parents, and her new acquaintances.
Wednesday season 1 resolves some of the major queries that surfaced over the eight episodes but still leaves numerous storyline threads and character outcomes ambiguous. Moreover, there are many fresh enigmas waiting to be solved once the show makes its return for another season.
Jenna is anticipated to reprise her role as our beloved enigmatic and eccentric goth heroine, in addition to the returning cast – including Hunter Doohan as Tyler. (Indeed, Tyler will officially return!)
Co-creator Alfred Gough also mentioned to ScreenRant that the show might expand: “Miles [Millar, co-creator] and I are having discussions regarding it. There’s certainly more to explore within the world of the Addams family.”
Although it has been renewed, it may take some time before we witness Wednesday Addams on our television again.
It wasn’t until May 2024 when Netflix officially confirmed the onset of production for season 2, following multiple strike delays. Given this information, Wednesday season 2 most likely won’t premiere until 2025. (As a point of reference, filming for season 1 began in Romania back in September 2021 and concluded in March 2022. It was released on Netflix eight months after production wrapped.)
We will have more insights regarding Wednesday season 2’s potential release date once filming is completed. According to Jenna Ortega’s latest reports, four episodes have been filmed as of August 2024. Production is expected to continue until November 2024. Stay tuned!
Naturally, Jenna Ortega will return in her iconic role as Wednesday Addams, our leading character, and now Netflix has disclosed the additional cast members who will join her:
- Jenna Ortega (Wednesday)
- Emma Myers (Enid)
- Joy Sunday (Bianca)
- Moosa Mostafa (Eugene)
- Georgie Farmer (Ajax)
- Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia)
- Luis Guzmán (Gomez)
- Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley)
- Thing (Victor Dorobantu)
- Hunter Doohan (Tyler)
Additionally, Christopher Lloyd, Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, Heather Matarazzo, Haley Joel Osment, and Billie Piper are all set to join the cast.
Regrettably, Gwendoline Christie will not be reprising her role as Principal Weems as her character was slain by Marilyn/Laurel in the series finale. Riki Lindhome as Dr. Kinbot is also definitively dead.
Percy Hynes White will similarly not be making a return as Xavier.
Well, we’ll need to wait and witness what season 2 of Wednesday has in store, but we can ascertain three things that will most likely occur if a second season is authorized by Netflix.
1) The identity of Wednesday’s new stalker. Who is observing her? Who is delivering those eerie photos? How did they obtain her number?
2) The location of Marilyn Thornhill a.k.a. Laurel Gates. We know she remains alive, and we did not observe her being captured by law enforcement. Was she detained or did she manage to escape?
3) Tyler transformed back into the Hyde while in transit, but did he successfully escape? Indeed, season 2 will likely focus again on Tyler/The Hyde monster’s whereabouts. Is he evading capture? Can he be cured? Can his Hyde abilities be confined again?
Despite the hopes of fans wishing for a romantic connection between Wednesday and Xavier in season 2, it has now been confirmed that this will not occur since Percy Hynes White will not reprise his role as Xavier.
During a discussion on Variety’s Actors on Actors in June 2023, Jenna stated that they are “essentially moving away from any romantic interests for Wednesday, which is fantastic.”
Jenna had previously told MTV News that she supports a friendly, platonic bond between the characters: “I feel like her and Xavier are just reaching a comfortable place. I believe there’s potential for a truly endearing platonic relationship. Because rarely is it illustrated well enough, the safe platonic friendships between men and women that remain non-romantic and are simply sincere, nearly sibling-like relations. I think it would be amazing to witness.”
Millar also mentioned to TV Guide: “She isn’t crazy about boys or girls. Instead, she is entertained akin to a scientist’s amusement, or intrigued by the allure of people. She doesn’t quite grasp it — ‘why are people drawn to me in this manner?’ It’s something that may grow over various seasons. But right now, it somewhat distracts her from her true passions: investigating, writing, or just advancing in her life.”
Clearly, we will have to wait until season 2 to discover the outcome. However, co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have hinted at what mysteries might encircle Wednesday in the upcoming season.
While conversing with TV Guide, Millar disclosed that they already possess knowledge about the identity of the stalker if a second season is confirmed. The central question for the audience is whether the stalker collaborates with Laurel and Tyler or operates independently.
“The viewers can interpret as they wish,” Millar mentioned. “I believe both scenarios are plausible since they offer intriguing possibilities. The aim is to captivate and prompt the audience to contemplate precisely those kinds of questions. The narrative could guide them in various paths, and it will be up to Season 2 to determine the direction taken.”
