Today, Nintendo announced on Twitter that they will be hosting an official Nintendo Direct event for the first time in well over a year. The presentation will be livestreamed on their official YouTube channel, and although specific details are scarce at this point, it is confirmed to be around 50 minutes long. The event will focus on various upcoming Switch games in 2021, with particular attention expected on Smash Ultimate news, potentially related to the next DLC character.

Games like Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, and the upcoming sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have been silent since their announcements several years ago. In the case of Bayonetta 3, Head of Platinum Games Hideki Kamiya recently indicated that fans shouldn’t anticipate news anytime soon. Apart from these, enthusiasts on Twitter are hopeful for a new iteration of Mario Kart, while rumors persist about a potential Switch hardware upgrade or sequel, although Nintendo personnel have repeatedly dismissed these rumors.
