Travis Scott and Astroworld Organizers Hit with $750 Million Lawsuit

Following the Astroworld festival where 10 people lost their lives in a crowd crush during Travis Scott’s performance, both the event and Scott himself have been in major hot water. Scott posted an apology video on his Instagram, saying he was “distraught” at the deaths, though many people who were at the show countered by saying he had ample opportunity to stop the performance and ensure people got help. Footage has gone viral of a girl climbing up a pole to the stage and begging Scott to stop the show, Scott simply telling her to get down. The organizers of Astroworld are also under fire for over-selling the show, as well as designing the venue improperly, which some theorized led to the crowd crush.

Over 125 people, including both attendants of the show and the families of those who were injured or killed, have filed a lawsuit against Scott and the event organizers. The plaintiffs are seeking $750 million in damages from both cited parties. One part of the plaintiffs is the family of 21-year-old Axel Acosta, one of the 10 who were killed during the show. According to their part of the case, Acosta was “crushed by the incited, unruly and out-of-control crowd” and was actively dying on the ground for at least 40 minutes before anyone realized.

“Certainly, neither Travis Scott nor his handlers, entourage, managers, agents, hangers on, promoters, organizers or sponsors cared enough about Axel to make even a minimal effort to keep him and the others at the concert safe,” it said.

Live Nation, the company that promotes Astroworld, is currently focusing on the ongoing investigations into the event. “We continue to support and assist local authorities in their ongoing investigation, so that both the fans who attended and their families can get the answers they want and deserve, and we will address all legal matters at the appropriate time,” they said in a statement.
