The Unexpected Nintendo Direct Announcement in September

Nintendo has proven to excel in surprising announcements. Throughout the past few years, many of their Direct showcases have included moments where they unveil a new game or character for Super Smash Bros. followed by the phrase “and it’s available today!” Today, Nintendo has taken this concept to the next level by revealing the entire presentation just a day before. Get ready, everyone, speculation time has begun.

In a tweet, Nintendo revealed that they will be live streaming a fresh Nintendo Direct presentation on their official YouTube channel on Thursday, September 23, at 3:00 PM Pacific time, 6:00 PM Eastern. The presentation is expected to run for about 40 minutes and will focus on games releasing in the upcoming winter season. With the winter season coinciding with the holiday period – where game publishers typically unveil their strongest titles – we might be in for some significant surprises.

While the specifics of the presentation remain a mystery beyond the brief teaser, rumors are swirling. One recent rumor suggests that Nintendo might introduce a collection of Game Boy games as part of their Nintendo Switch Online service, with another hinting at a lineup of Nintendo 64 games. Additionally, fans are anticipating updates on known games like the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V in November. However, hopes are also high for appearances from major franchises, including the highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Once again, all eyes are on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the rumor mill. Fans are eagerly awaiting the reveal of the final DLC fighter from Fighter’s Pass 2. Speculation is rampant, with current trends pointing towards Sora from Kingdom Hearts. As for me, all my preferences seem to have been ruled out, so I’m simply hoping for a pleasant surprise (and definitely not another Fortnite character).
