‘The Last of Us’ Premiere Draws 4.7 Million Viewers
It was the second-most-attended debut on HBO in the previous decade.
This recent weekend witnessed the HBO Max debut of The Last of Us, a streaming series derived from the video game of the identical title featuring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, a duo of survivors traveling across a decaying and overgrown United States two decades after a majority of society crumbled as a result of a viral epidemic.

The series proved to be another significant success for HBO, amassing 4.7 million viewers for its premiere across both HBO Max and the linear HBO TV channel. This stands as the second-largest debut for a show on HBO since the inauguration of Boardwalk Empire in 2010, surpassing only by last year’s House of the Dragon, which attracted 9.986 million viewers.
“Our objective was straightforward – to craft the finest possible adaptation of this cherished tale for as broad an audience as possible,” shared executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. “We are delighted to witness the warm reception by numerous fans, be they old or new, embracing The Last of Us within their domiciles and their affections.”
