Pop sensation Taylor Swift turned down an invitation from Meghan Markle to feature on her now-defunct podcast, “Archetypes.” The Duchess of Sussex personally reached out to Swift, but the response she received was distant. Swift opted to decline the invitation through a representative, without directly responding.

The refusal contributes to the recent decline of the podcast, as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently cut ties with Spotify, the platform that carried the show, just three years into their $20 million agreement.
Sources reveal that the split from Spotify was attributed to the insufficient content output by the royal couple. Despite the temporary success of “Archetypes” in the rankings, executives believed the podcast did not deliver the expected return on investment.
Additionally, the production was marred by frequent last-minute change requests from Meghan, who even involved senior Spotify executives in pressuring producers for alterations.

Prince Harry also faced challenges in developing his own podcast concept, exploring topics such as veteran affairs, misinformation, and his distinctive perspective as a relative newcomer to life in America. He even suggested interviews with figures like Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, and Mark Zuckerberg about their childhood experiences, leaving executives puzzled.
The cancellation of the podcast deal adds financial strain to the couple, who relinquished their senior royal roles in early 2020. They are confronted with ongoing financial constraints while maintaining an opulent residence in Montecito and managing substantial security costs.
While Taylor Swift’s rejection could be interpreted as a snub towards Meghan Markle, it also underscores the challenges faced by the couple in their pursuit to establish a footing in the podcasting realm.
