In December, Xbox held a competition asking for entries from enthusiasts on creating the optimal associated game for the upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy. Various concepts were submitted, encompassing combat, strategic, and basketball-themed ideas. Eventually, the choice was made to embrace a classic concept for a traditional movie series.

Within the following month, Xbox is gearing up to introduce Space Jam: A New Legacy The Game, a retro-style side-scrolling brawl game. Gamers will have the opportunity to inhabit the characters of LeBron James, Bugs Bunny, or Lola Bunny, battling through hordes of monstrous and mechanical adversaries with the ultimate aim of conquering the Tune Squad’s antagonists, the Goon Squad. The game will also offer three-player cooperative play (a standard feature for side-scrolling brawl games), enabling three individuals to simultaneously control James, Bugs, and Lola for local multiplayer entertainment.

Although Xbox is responsible for publishing Space Jam: A New Legacy The Game, the game development was entrusted to Digital Eclipse, a studio renowned for its proficiency in classic gaming, having previously worked on titles like The Disney Afternoon Collection and the Blizzard Arcade Collection.

Space Jam: A New Legacy The Game will premiere as an early exclusive on Xbox Games Pass Ultimate on July 1. Subsequently, on July 15, it will transition to a free-to-play model on the Microsoft Store, aligning with the launch of Space Jam: A New Legacy in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16. Microsoft is also planning to unveil a series of three Xbox controllers themed around Space Jam, although the details regarding the availability and pricing of these controllers are yet to be disclosed.
