Sony Developing Spider-Man Offshoots for Amazon
Amazon has approved series based on the expanded Spider-Man universe.
With Sony Pictures taking more direct control over the Spider-Man realm previously managed by Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they’re mapping out additional movies within the expanded universe. Examples of this approach are the Venom movies and Morbius. Through their latest agreement, Sony will explore more Spider-Man characters in a set of spin-off shows.

Sony has struck a partnership with Amazon and MGM to create a currently undisclosed number of spin-off TV series in the expanded Spider-Man universe. These fresh series are set to broadcast on MGM+ and stream on Amazon Prime Video. The detailed extent of these spin-offs remains under wraps, but the initial series in Sony’s plans is Silk: Spider Society.

Debuting in a 2014 Spider-Man comic universe, Cindy Moon is a Korean American adolescent who gains spider-like powers after a radioactive spider bite, sharing the same spider-induced abilities with Peter Parker, embracing the moniker Silk. The upcoming show is in development under the guidance of The Walking Dead executive Angela Kang, in collaboration with Amy Pascal and the creative minds behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller. According to Lord and Miller, this upcoming series will delve into Cindy Moon’s journey as she “breaks free from captivity and embarks on a quest to locate her absent family en route to embodying the superhero identity Silk.”
There’s no set timeline for the release of this series as of now.
