Singer Billie Joe Armstrong Vows to Relinquish US Citizenship

The recent pivotal verdict by the United States Supreme Court to nullify Roe v. Wade, bringing an end to constitutionally-protected rights to access and obtain abortion care, has triggered significant backlash from the public. Protests have erupted all across the nation, many of which have criticized the court Justices for defying the desires of the majority of the population and abolishing a crucial medical protection.

Various artists and public figures have also taken stances on the issue, with one individual deciding to sever ties with America completely. During a performance at London Stadium over the weekend as part of Green Day’s Hella Mega tour, lead vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong declared that he is giving up his US citizenship in response to the Roe v. Wade ruling.

“F**k America. I’m f***king relinquishing my citizenship. I’m f**king moving here,” he announced to the audience.

He went on to mention that there is “excessive f**king foolishness in the world to return to that wretched f**king excuse for a country.” He also informed the crowd that “You can expect to see a lot more of me in the days ahead.”

Armstrong joins a number of other notable artists in denouncing the Supreme Court, such as Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Olivia Rodrigo. All of these artists performed at the Glastonbury Festival, expressing their opposition to the ruling with chants of “F**k the Supreme Court.”
