Pilot at Airline Adopts Dog Abandoned at San Francisco Airport
A canine named Polaris found a new home with Captain William Dale from United Airlines.
When it comes to traveling internationally with your furry companions, things can get quite complex. This complexity likely prompted an unknown traveler to leave their dog behind at San Francisco International Airport earlier in the current month. Faced with challenges related to the necessary paperwork for the dog’s ownership, the owner made the tough decision to relinquish ownership and continue their journey without their fluffy friend.

Thankfully, there are protocols in place for such circumstances, and United Airlines collaborated with the San Francisco SPCA to take charge of the pup. They ensured Polaris completed all necessary procedures to be allowed into the United States, including undergoing a mandatory quarantine period.
“The Customer Service team at United went above and beyond to make sure Polaris would be well-cared for, healthy, and ultimately find a caring home,” said Lisa Feder, the head of rescue and welfare at SF SPCA.

“From the moment Polaris came under our care, our entire SFO United team dedicated themselves to his well-being round the clock until we received approval to have him reside safely in the US,” stated Vincent Passafiume, the director of customer service at United Airlines.
Following a brief period of searching, Polaris found a forever home with a United pilot, Captain William Dale, who was determined to provide him with all the love and care he deserved. In an interview with the Washington Post, Dale expressed, “We aim to take care of him as well as the United staff did, if not better. Several employees even jokingly warned me to take good care of him… or else. There was a playful wag of a finger in there as well.”
