Peter Dinklage Voices Displeasure Regarding Live-Action Adaptation of ‘Snow White’
Presently, Disney is in the midst of producing yet another live-action rendition of one of their timeless animated movies, this time focusing on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Of special interest in the production phase was the choice to select Latina performer Rachel Zegler for the leading role of Snow White. Given that Snow White is typically portrayed by Caucasian performers, this revelation garnered Disney some commendation for forward-thinking casting choices.
Nevertheless, during a recent conversation on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, renowned actor Peter Dinklage conveyed his sentiments. Dinklage remarked that Zegler’s casting constitutes a minor step forward in terms of inclusivity, but it doesn’t address the inherent problematic portrayal engrained in the narrative of Snow White.
“Without intending offense, I was somewhat surprised when they proudly announced the casting of a Latina actress as Snow White, yet the fundamental narrative of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remains unchanged,” stated Dinklage. “It’s crucial to take a critical look at the underlying implications. It just doesn’t add up for me.”
Dinklage, a person with dwarfism himself, has long been an advocate for the fair and equitable treatment of individuals similar to him. Consequently, the presence of the titular seven dwarfs is a contentious aspect that, according to him, Disney is intentionally sidestepping.

“You may be progressive in some aspects, yet you’re still perpetuating that outdated tale about seven dwarfs cohabiting in a cave; what’s the rationale behind that, my friend? Have my efforts from the soapbox been in vain? Perhaps I’m not vocal enough. I’m uncertain about the studio behind this, but their pride in the matter is baffling. I harbor nothing but affection and regard for the actress and those who believed they were doing right. However, I can’t help but question the motives,” exclaimed Dinklage.
To wrap up, Dinklage proposed that the film doesn’t necessarily require abandonment; instead, the entire concept revolving around the seven dwarfs should undergo reevaluation. “If we were to retell the tale of Snow White with a groundbreaking, unconventional, or progressive twist? Count me in,” he concluded. “Let’s make it happen.”
