Next Phase of COVID Home Tests Now Accessible

With the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in various parts of the United States, renewed national safety precautions are being activated to safeguard the welfare of the population. One such precaution is the home testing initiative implemented by the Biden Administration. The USPS has already distributed complimentary home COVID test kits twice, and this service is now being undertaken for the third time, potentially for the final time.

Similar to previous occasions, by visiting the home testing website, individuals can register their name and address to have a batch of home COVID test kits sent to them via postal service at no cost. On this latest occasion, those requesting tests will be provided with a total of eight units, delivered in two separate shipments. Adding these new kits to the ones previously dispatched, the total number of kits delivered per person now stands at 16.

The resources for these complimentary tests were secured from last year’s stimulus package, which has by now been nearly expended. The Biden Administration is advocating for an additional $22.5 billion to support further rounds of testing and vaccinations, cautioning that unless additional funding is secured, no more complimentary tests can be dispatched.

“Due to Congress’s neglect in providing additional funding for the country’s COVID-19 response, the Administration is unable to maintain the substantial federal investments necessary to support local testing manufacturing capabilities, which could imperil the federal government’s ability to distribute complimentary tests in the future,” states the fact sheet released by the White House on this issue.
