The movie delves into Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s and addiction.
During the recent Sundance Film Festival, seasoned performer Michael J. Fox, widely recognized for his portrayal of Marty McFly in the Back to the Future series, unveiled a personal documentary titled Still: A Michael J. Fox Film. Featuring narration by Fox himself, the documentary revisits his diagnosis with the degenerative neurological disorder Parkinson’s Disease in the 90s and the ensuing struggle with alcoholism and substance abuse.

“Escape was my only motivation for consuming those pills – not relief or solace,” expresses Fox in the documentary. “I mastered the art of managing my drug intake to reach the perfect high at the precise moment and location.”
Reflecting on his past, Fox admits, “I was clueless. I was clueless about the future. So, what if I could just have four glasses of wine and perhaps a shot?” Fox acknowledges, “I battled alcoholism. Nevertheless, I managed to stay sober for three decades.”
In 1998, Fox disclosed his Parkinson’s diagnosis publicly, confessing in the film that concealing the truth only intensified the challenges he faced. “For me, the most suffocating thing is restraint,” Fox asserts. “The most oppressive thing is feeling trapped and devoid of an escape route.”
“There were moments when I thought, ‘There’s no way out of this.’”

Although coping with the illness is arduous and discouraging, Fox opt to uphold a positive outlook in any way possible. “To some, the news of my disease might signify an end,” Fox remarks. “But I was beginning to realize it was truly a fresh start.”
Still is set to be released for public viewing later this year on Apple TV+.
