Mark Zuckerberg Addresses Metaverse Internet Jokes
Zuckerberg stood by his stance during an investor briefing.
Earlier this year, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the initial image of his virtual self in his “metaverse” world, Horizon Worlds. The avatar was captured in front of a scaled-down version of the Eiffel Tower, devoid of expression. The image sparked a flurry of jokes and memes, adding to the existing playful banter surrounding the metaverse. This week, Zuckerberg engaged with Meta’s investors in a formal session, addressing the viral jokes inspired by the avatar.

“I understand that upon releasing a product, memes often emerge suggesting that we’ve invested significant resources into creating what is mocked,” Zuckerberg expressed during the call, as initially reported by TechCrunch.
“I believe there are several products and platforms under development where we are pioneering work that will lead to the launch of consumer goods and eventually refined products at varying intervals over the upcoming five to ten years,” he elaborated.

Zuckerberg expressed his confidence in the progress made by his developers, asserting his belief that virtual reality and augmented reality technologies represent the future. “It still has a long way to go before it achieves our vision,” Zuckerberg remarked about Horizon Worlds. “We believe we are making significant strides in that direction, but there is ample room for further advancements and innovation.”
