Macy’s Parade Inflates Open to the General Public
The upcoming Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is set to meander down the streets of New York City, showcasing extravagant floats, live tunes, and notably, the enormous character inflatables. The oversized balloons often steal the spotlight, displaying beloved characters (at least for the current year) blown up to gargantuan sizes and drifting along the urban sprawl. If you happen to be an ardent fan of these inflatables, then perhaps consider arriving early for a special presentation at this year’s parade.
This year, Macy’s is permitting visitors to witness the initial expansion of the parade’s character balloons. Not only will you have a sneak peek at this year’s newest additions, but you’ll witness their metamorphosis from initially disconcerting latex forms into larger-than-life embodiments of whimsical promotion. Naturally, for health and safety reasons amidst the pandemic, there will be specific guidelines: all attendees must have received full vaccination and provide documentation thereof. While children may be exempt from vaccination, they must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult. Face masks are mandatory for attendance, and although not obligatory, maintaining social distancing will be strongly recommended.

The inflation presentation will take place at the Upper West Side on 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue from noon today until 6:00 PM Eastern Time. Among the new additions to this year’s parade lineup are Grogu, the endearing Baby Yoda, Ada Twist from the Netflix series Ada Twist, Scientist, and the Pokémon duo Pikachu and Eevee in a PokéBall sled.
