Legal Action Filed Against Afroman by Police Regarding Music Video Footage

The artist incorporated scenes of a home invasion by law enforcement officers in his music visuals.

Rapper Joseph Edgar Foreman, recognized as Afroman, is facing a lawsuit initiated by the deputies of the Sheriff’s Department in Adams County, Ohio. In August of 2022, Afroman’s residence underwent a police raid due to suspicions of illegal substance possession and trafficking. The raid was recorded by security cameras inside his home, which Afroman then integrated into his music productions.

The law enforcement officers are taking legal action against Afroman for using their likenesses in his videos without permission. The officers claim to have experienced “humiliation, ridicule, mental distress, embarrassment, and damage to their reputation” due to the widespread circulation of the videos.

The formal complaint states, “Plaintiffs have suffered financial losses as a result of the unauthorized usage of their identities by the defendants.”

The complaint also alleges, “The defendants’ actions were intentional, malicious, and showed a complete disregard for the rights of the plaintiffs.”

Afroman, in response, argues that the police forfeited their privacy rights when they executed what he claims to be an unjustly obtained search warrant.

“The video material I possess is my personal property. I am a law-abiding citizen who pays taxes and was violated by criminals posing as law enforcement officers,” expressed the rapper on his Instagram account. Additionally, his attorney mentioned, “We are awaiting responses to our public records requests from Adams County, which we have yet to receive. We intend to pursue legal action due to the unlawful raid, theft of money, and the substantial harm caused to my client’s family, career, and property.”
