John Mulaney and Andy Samberg Step in for Jimmy Kimmel

Earlier in the current week, the well-known figure on TV, Jimmy Kimmel, revealed that he had received a positive COVID-19 test result and was now isolating at his residence. Quite surprisingly, this marks the second occasion this month that Kimmel has tested positive and had to halt his hosting duties, with the initial incident occurring on the 2nd of May. While he had recuperated from the first bout, it seems like COVID has struck him once more.

“Maintaining a positive outlook, I have tested positive AGAIN. Thankfully, I am feeling well,” he shared on Twitter.

To ensure that the show went on as planned, Kimmel opted to promote two of his celebrity guests to the role of guest hosts. Thus, the episode aired on Wednesday night was helmed by the tandem of John Mulaney and Andy Samberg, who were originally slated to discuss their leading roles in Disney’s film, Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

“We are incredibly grateful and privileged to be here,” remarked Mulaney during their opening segment. “Let’s briefly touch upon why we are stepping in tonight. Recall how Jimmy initially claimed he was COVID-free but then reversed course? Turns out, he was accurate on both occasions.”

“That’s the entertainment industry for you,” quipped Mulaney. “One moment you’re free of obligations, the next, a message arrives, and you’re back in action.”

In addition to their introductory remarks, the pair alternated between taking on the roles of interviewer and interviewee, given that they were initially scheduled to be the designated guests for the evening.

“For those of you who might be unimpressed at this moment, brace yourselves because the standard won’t be improving,” joked Samberg.
