James McAvoy Talks About The Deeper Messages In His Thrilling New Film ‘Speak No Evil’
James McAvoy elaborated on how his ‘Speak No Evil’ character Paddy confronts toxic masculinity.
Split star James McAvoy engaged with Capital’s Jimmy Hill to discuss his latest film Speak No Evil, where he portrays Paddy, described by Jimmy as a “wicked individual” with “layers”.
Reflecting on why he relished tackling this role, James remarked: “If a villain is simply a villain, then it’s not enjoyable, is it?”
“However, if it is a villain whose actions are supported by something compelling to express about being – in this case – a male individual, a rural citizen, someone deprived of the opportunities available to others, that becomes rather intriguing.”
Speak No Evil is a thriller and drama that transforms a dream vacation into a terrifying ordeal when an American family and their child spend the weekend at a picturesque country estate owned by a British family.
James indicated that his character is the type of individual he would steer clear of in a bar: “When I encounter guys like that, I just think ‘peace out Brussels sprout’ and I’m out of there in a flash.”
