‘How to Educate Your Dragon’ to Receive Live-Action Revamp
The upcoming movie is under the leadership of the original’s director.
Ever since its initial debut in 2005, Dreamworks’ How to Educate Your Dragon has proven to be one of the studio’s most fruitful and beloved franchises. The original movie garnered various sequels and led to numerous TV and streaming offshoot series and films. Initially inspired by the books authored by Cressida Cowell, the initial film narrates the escapades of a Scandinavian adolescent named Hiccup who befriends and trains a dragon named Toothless. Together, they endeavor to shift his society’s view on dragons and emerge as its guardians.

Although not much time has passed since the franchise’s introduction, Dreamworks seems to have taken a cue from Disney by bringing the franchise to life in a tangible way. The corporation recently announced that they are developing a live-action reimagining of How to Educate Your Dragon, set to hit screens around 2025. Details about the production remain scarce, though whispers suggest that the casting process is already in motion.
Universal Pictures has approved a live-action rendition of How to Educate Your Dragon. Dean DeBlois, who helmed the entire How to Educate Your Dragon trilogy, will be back to script, direct, and oversee the project. https://t.co/PYtQDJ4aO0 pic.twitter.com/DQi0Z7HMco

An intriguing aspect of this endeavor is that it will be scripted, directed, and managed by Dean DeBlois. DeBlois previously worked as co-writer and co-director on the original movie trilogy with Will Davies and Chris Sander. This marks DeBlois’ first foray into live-action production, although he will receive support from producer Marc Platt and the Universal-affiliated Marc Platt Productions.
