Forthcoming World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos Emphasizes Restoring Confidence and Confronting Epidemic Obstacles.
The 54th Annual Gathering of the World Economic Forum (WEF) is scheduled to be held in January 2024 under the theme of “Restoring Confidence.” This renowned event will unite influencers and leaders from diverse sectors globally to tackle urgent global challenges and investigate approaches to reinstate faith in critical areas.
Following three years of “turmoil, anguish, and devastation” linked to COVID-19, the world is now gearing up for future pandemics, as asserted by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), as reported by 20 Minutes. In his year-end communication, Tedros urged nations to finalize an “exceptional” accord to bridge the gaps in epidemic readiness.
“The year 2024 presents an unparalleled opportunity to bridge these fissures,” he remarked, underscoring ongoing discussions for the initial global agreement on pandemic perils. This pact aims to enhance collaboration, cooperation, and fairness in the epidemic response.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also referenced significant advancements in global healthcare, such as the discontinuation of the highest level of alert for the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2023, considering it to be adequately under control. Moreover, the WHO lifted a similar alert related to mpox (monkeypox) in May 2023 and sanctioned new immunizations against malaria, dengue, and meningitis. Additionally, Azerbaijan, Belize, and Tajikistan have been proclaimed malaria-free.
Nevertheless, Tedros expressed apprehension regarding the recurrence of cholera, with more than 40 widespread outbreaks globally, describing the situation as “exceedingly disquieting.” He also commended the focus on the effects of climate change on health during the recent COP.
