Recently, Nintendo unveiled the Expansion Pack for their Nintendo Switch Online platform. This upgraded subscription level offers users entry to a collection of emulated Nintendo 64 games and Sega Genesis titles, along with exclusive content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The value of this subscription has sparked debates, particularly due to performance issues with some of the emulated Nintendo 64 titles, making it challenging to justify the cost of the Expansion Pack. Nevertheless, a game is on the horizon that might alter perspectives.

Just announced by Nintendo is the introduction of a new addition to the Nintendo 64 library within the Expansion Pack – the iconic 1998 game Banjo-Kazooie. Developed by Rare, this 3D platformer features the lovable bear and bird duo embarking on whimsical adventures to rescue a kidnapped family member. Banjo-Kazooie undeniably holds a special place in the hearts of N64 fans and has been a much-anticipated addition, having been absent from Nintendo platforms due to Microsoft’s ownership of Rare.

On another note, the collaboration between Nintendo and Microsoft’s Rare for including Banjo and Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate showcases a positive relationship, indicating a willingness to share intellectual properties under suitable circumstances. The critical question that remains is the performance of the game on the Switch. A smooth gaming experience could attract a new wave of Expansion Pack subscribers. Should issues arise, there’s always the option of exploring Rare Replay.
