Episode 6 of ‘JoJo’s Eccentric Journey’ Makes its Debut on Netflix
Among the anime that have achieved some level of recognition in mainstream circles, JoJo’s Eccentric Journey is considered either highly renowned or notoriously divisive, depending on the perspective. The original manga has been in print since 1987, showing no signs of slowing down, and its uniquely peculiar scenarios often prompt individuals to exclaim “JoJo reference!” at the most unexpected moments, thanks to its numerous nods to classic rock and rap icons. While this tendency might prove irksome for the unacquainted, for enthusiasts like myself, it serves as another fascinating facet of what renders this fantastical series of superhuman mental showdowns so captivating. The recent addition to the saga reaffirms this sentiment.
Recently, Netflix unveiled the initial 12 episodes of the animated rendition of the sixth section of JoJo’s Eccentric Journey, christened Stone Ocean. In this segment, the central figure is Jolyne Cujoh, the estranged offspring of the protagonist from the third section, Jotaro Kujo. Following a false accusation, Jolyne winds up in the confines of the Green Dolphin Street Penitentiary in Florida, sentenced to 15 years. This incarceration was not a mere coincidence but rather an elaborate stratagem orchestrated by the long-standing adversary within the series, Dio Brando. To survive, Jolyne must forge alliances within the prison, all the while honing her newfound paranormal talents.

Remarkably, alongside the conventional Japanese audio track accompanied by English subtitles, Netflix has simultaneously unveiled the English dubbed version, a rollout typically scheduled months after the initial release. Noteworthy within the English cast is the voice behind Jolyne, Kira Buckland, renowned for previous supporting roles in prior segments of the show and recognized as a prominent voice artist for video games.
“For the past 8 years, I have nurtured the hope that this moment might one day emerge,” Buckland conveyed on her personal Twitter. “Unbelievably, the moment has arrived… It is truly the greatest honor in my life to embody the English voice of JOLYNE CUJOH in JOJO’S ECCENTRIC JOURNEY: STONE OCEAN. My aspirations have been finally realized.”
