End of the Line for Splash Mountain at Disney World
A Huge Crowd Gathers for Farewell Ride
The final curtain fell on Sunday for one of Disney World’s long-standing and iconic attractions, Splash Mountain. Introduced in 1989, the attraction has remained largely unaltered for decades, sending riders down its famous log flume to the melody of “Zip-a-dee-doo-da.” However, the decision to close down the ride and revamp it into a Princess and the Frog-themed experience was announced back in 2020.

The final operating day of Splash Mountain attracted a considerable crowd of patrons, both young and old, eager to enjoy one last ride through the bayou. Attendees reported that at its peak, the wait time in the queue exceeded 220 minutes. As the night drew to a close, the final passengers on the attraction were the Disney employees who had operated it, greeted by the applause of grateful onlookers.

Currently, Splash Mountain has ceased operations to make way for the imminent renovations. The reimagined attraction, named Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is slated to debut in 2024. “Fireflies will illuminate the evening, beckoning you further into the bayou… as if they are guiding you forward. The enchanting zydeco tunes will envelop the surroundings,” shared Carmen Smith, Disney Imagineering’s senior vice president for creative development, in a blog post.
