Dismissal of Mike Richards from ‘Jeopardy!’
Unveiling the new Jeopardy! host has been quite an eventful journey. Following an extensive trial period with various guest hosts, the show’s own executive producer, Mike Richards, appointed himself as the host of the beloved quiz show. This decision was met with disapproval from viewers, especially after revelations surfaced about Richards’ past inappropriate remarks on a podcast and his involvement in discrimination lawsuits from models on The Price is Right. Richards stepped down from the hosting role last week amidst backlash, yet the repercussions seem to linger.
Suzanne Prete, the executive vice president of business and strategy for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, conveyed in a memo to the staff that Richards has been terminated from his position as executive producer for both programs. She stated, “I am informing you that Mike will no longer hold the role of EP for Wheel and Jeopardy! with immediate effect. We had anticipated that Richard’s resignation from the host role on Jeopardy! would mitigate the upheaval and internal challenges we have encountered over the past few weeks. Regrettably, that hasn’t been the case.”
Sony has ousted Mike Richards as the executive producer of #Jeopardy and #WheelOfFortune. Michael Davies, the producer of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” under Embassy Row at Sony, will assume interim production responsibilities. https://t.co/obfAgsbrBx pic.twitter.com/Xe0z7JK71X
