Even if the realm of anime and manga isn’t in your purview, there’s a high likelihood that you’re familiar with Kimetsu no Yaiba, also recognized as Demon Slayer. This popular manga series turned anime sensation not only surpassed the entire US comic book industry in sales but also landed its creator, Koyoharu Gotouge, a spot on the Time 100 Next list, highlighting emerging leaders in business. While a second season of the anime is on the horizon, viewers in the West are eager to watch the movie adaptation.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train is a film adaption of the Mugen Train arc from the manga series. Upon its release in Japan last October, the movie quickly dominated the box office, raking in over $100 million within a mere ten days. The Western audience has been eagerly anticipating the opportunity to experience this cinematic marvel, but due to the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic, theatrical releases have been delayed. However, Aniplex and Funimation have finally revealed the awaited release date.

Mugen Train will make its debut in Western theaters on April 23 with options for English subtitles and dubbing. The film, rated R, will be shown in standard screenings, as well as IMAX and 4DX where offered. Pre-sale tickets will be available on Funimation’s website starting April 9. For those who prefer streaming from home, the movie will be accessible for digital viewing beginning June 22, with pre-orders commencing on April 26. This online viewing opportunity includes platforms like Apple TV, the Microsoft Store, Vudu, Google Play, the PlayStation Store, and Amazon, although pricing details are yet to be disclosed.

Shu Nishimoto, president of Aniplex of America, expressed their excitement, stating, “We are delighted to bring Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train to theaters in North America. The unwavering support from fans worldwide has been the cornerstone of the series, and we eagerly anticipate everyone’s immersion in Tanjiro’s next Demon Slayer journey.”
