Rowling. Rowling has expressed a series of disparaging, negative, and caustic remarks regarding the LGBTQ+ community, particularly individuals who are transgender. In 2020, Daniel Radcliffe, the enduring face of Harry Potter himself, penned an open letter condemning Rowling’s viewpoints and expressing his commitment to supporting and acknowledging the LGBTQ+ community.

In a recent exchange with IndieWire, Radcliffe revisited that letter, underscoring the significance of informing fans and observers that Rowling’s views do not mirror his or the rest of the Potter cast’s.
“The urgency I felt when I chose to speak out stemmed from the fact that, especially since concluding ‘Potter,’ I encountered numerous queer and trans youths who profoundly identified with Potter in that respect. Witnessing their distress on that occasion prompted me to ensure they understood that not everyone in the franchise shared that sentiment. That was exceedingly crucial,” Radcliffe elaborated.

Radcliffe has long been a passionate advocate of LGBTQ+ charity The Trevor Project and believed it was imperative to elucidate his stance in order to continue supporting them with a clear conscience. “It was exceedingly crucial given my tenure with the Trevor Project over the past decade, as I don’t believe I could have faced myself without speaking up,” he noted.
