Colton Underwood Reveals He is Homosexual
During an appearance on Good Morning America today, former football athlete and participant on The Bachelor Colton Underwood openly discussed an aspect of himself he had apparently concealed for a substantial period: his sexual preference. Earlier this year, after a prolonged period of reflection, Underwood acknowledged that, contrary to what his involvement in The Bachelor may have indicated, he is interested in individuals of the same gender.
“I’ve evaded my true self for an extended duration. I’ve held animosity towards myself for quite some time, and I identify as homosexual. I arrived at this realization earlier this year and have been processing it,” Underwood disclosed. “The subsequent phase in this journey was divulging this to people. I still experience trepidation. It has undeniably been a voyage.”
“I am experiencing a surge of emotions, but in a gratifying, joyful, and optimistic manner,” he further shared. “At this point in my life, I am the happiest and healthiest I have ever been, and that is profoundly meaningful to me.”
When asked by Roberts about the delay in publicly acknowledging this revelation, Underwood attributed it to being in a significantly dismal emotional state. “I believe the primary reason for coming out now is that I reached a juncture where I never envisioned disclosing this. I would have chosen death over admitting that I am homosexual,” he expressed.

He then delved into the topic of grappling with suicidal ideation, elucidating, “There was a moment in Los Angeles where I woke up and harbored no expectation of living through the day.”
“I didn’t anticipate waking up, but I did,” he recounted. “For me, that served as a pivotal moment—recognizing that this is your life—reclaim control. Reflecting on it, even beyond those instances of contemplating suicide and nearing a cliff in my car, thinking, ‘If I careen off the edge, it wouldn’t matter much.’ I do not wrestle with such thoughts anymore.”
Post the conversation, the producers of The Bachelor issued a statement commending Underwood for his candor and valor. “We are profoundly inspired by Colton Underwood’s valor in embracing and pursuing his genuine self,” they remarked. “As ardent supporters of the power of affection, we wholeheartedly endorse Colton’s expedition in the LGBTQIA+ community every step of the way.”
