Charges against Attacker of Dave Chappelle Won’t be Upgraded to Felony
Despite facing misdemeanors, Isaiah Lee escapes felony charges.
During the recent Netflix is a Joke: The Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, comedian Dave Chappelle was unexpectedly tackled on stage by a man identified as 23-year-old Isaiah Lee. The incident led to Lee’s immediate arrest.

Lee is facing a total of four misdemeanors, which include battery and possession of a weapon, as he was found with a replica gun containing a hidden knife blade. However, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office has decided not to elevate the charges to a felony level.
According to a statement from DA spokesperson Greg Risling to CNN, “Upon examination of the facts, it was determined that the actions were criminal but did not meet the criteria for a felony offense.”

The venue owners are now implementing enhanced security protocols to safeguard performers. Sophie Jefferies, the public relations director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, stated, “We are reevaluating our current procedures both internally and with the aid of external professionals to uphold a safe environment at the Hollywood Bowl. Additional security personnel have been deployed for enhanced bag checks and overall security measures.”
Despite the attack causing him distress, Dave Chappelle managed to resume the show smoothly and is fully cooperating with the local authorities in their investigation.
