Approximately seven months have passed since the renowned Hollywood performer Chadwick Boseman, most notable for his leading role in Marvel’s Black Panther, graced the cinema screens. Following the immense success of that movie, Boseman was on the brink of becoming one of the entertainment industry’s brightest stars when he sadly departed in August 2020 at the youthful age of 43 due to colorectal cancer, significantly premature compared to the longevity of certain Hollywood stalwarts. Nevertheless, despite Boseman’s physical absence, his remarkable portrayals have stood the test of time, garnering him the accolades he so richly deserves.

At the recent Golden Globe Awards ceremony, Boseman was posthumously honored with the best actor award in a motion picture-drama for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. In the entire annals of the Golden Globes, Boseman holds the distinct honor as only the second actor to receive such a posthumous recognition, triumphing over four other accomplished actors, namely Anthony Hopkins in The Father, Riz Ahmed in The Sound of Metal, Gary Oldman in Mank, and Tahar Rahim in The Mauritanian.

During the heartfelt ceremony, Boseman’s partner, Simone Ledward Boseman, graciously accepted the accolade on behalf of her beloved spouse, delivering an emotionally stirring address in his memory. “He would express gratitude to God. He would extend appreciation to his parents. He would acknowledge his forebears for their wisdom and sacrifices,” she fondly recalled. “He would articulate something profound, something motivational, something that would resonate with that inner voice inside each one of us that echoes ‘You can do it,’ that urges you to persevere, that beckons you back to your inherent purpose in this era.” She went on to say, “I may not possess his eloquence, but we must cherish every opportunity to honor those we hold dear, so thank you HFPA, for this platform to do just that. And, my love, keep shining. Thank you,” she concluded.
