Artist Kanye West Officially Alters his Name to ‘Ye’
Renowned (and at times controversial) lyricist Kanye Omari West has been known by various monikers throughout his journey in the music industry. One of his favored aliases is “Ye,” a term he believes holds significance as it is frequently mentioned in the Bible, signifying “you.” However, as of yesterday, Ye ceased to be a mere nickname for West, transforming into his sole identity.
About a month ago, West submitted a formal request to change his legal name from “Kanye Omari West” to simply “Ye,” citing “personal motivations” for this alteration. There is no longer a middle or surname attached; now it’s just “Ye,” akin to iconic figures like “Prince” or “Sting.” Yesterday, a magistrate at the Los Angeles Superior Court finalized the name change. Henceforth, the entity known as Kanye Omari West no longer exists, only Ye remains.
Kanye West has transitioned. Following the formalization of his name change, the musician, born Kanye Omari West, has effectively embraced the appellation “Ye.” https://t.co/iioO4cv6Ep

This decision, though unexpected, is not entirely without precedence. Ye’s eighth music album was also titled “Ye,” and as early as 2018, he expressed a preference for being called Ye instead of Kanye West. During the birth of his first child with his former spouse, Kim Kardashian, he initially desired to name the child “Ye,” eventually settling on the name Psalm. Furthermore, in 2019, he contemplated a name change to “Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West,” yet that change did not materialize.
