‘Arrival 2 America’ Emerges as Most-Watched Movie of the Previous Year
Coming to America was undeniably a must-see movie. Upon its initial release, the reception from critics was average, but Eddie Murphy’s captivating portrayal of Prince Akeem Joffer made it a beloved film among cinema enthusiasts, eventually achieving cult status. With the premiere of Arrival 2 America on Amazon Prime, history seems to repeat itself: critics have criticized the film for recycling old jokes, yet it managed to attract a substantial audience nonetheless.
As reported by research company Screen Engine, since its first weekend screening on March 5, Arrival 2 America has rapidly become the most viewed movie on streaming platforms not just since the start of this year, but also compared to the same period a year ago. While exact viewership figures were not disclosed by Screen Engine, it was confirmed that Arrival 2 America outperformed Wonder Woman 1984 and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm in terms of views. Additionally, it surpassed the recent high-profile releases on Paramount+ and Disney+, such as The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and Raya and the Last Dragon respectively. Notably, the need for Disney+ subscribers to pay an extra $30 for Raya and the Last Dragon likely contributed to its lower viewership figures.
