Another Norfolk Southern Train Has Derailed in Alabama

No harmful materials were onboard the train, and no significant destruction or injuries have been noted.

On Thursday, coinciding with Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw’s scheduled appearance before Congress regarding the significant train accident in East Palestine, Ohio, a separate train belonging to the company experienced a derailment in Alabama. In Calhoun County, Alabama, 37 train cars derailed, though fortunately, none of them were transporting dangerous substances this time. Two of the cars had previously transported hazardous materials but were now considered “residue” cars, with no compromise to their structural integrity, posing no threats to local health and safety.

“The cars did not breach. No hazardous materials were released. There is absolutely no risk to the public,” stated Norfolk Southern spokesperson Connor Spielmaker at a press briefing. He further added, “Rail transportation remains the safest mode in the country for transporting all kinds of materials.”

Images from the site depict the overturned cars on their sides. As of the current moment, the exact cause of the incident remains unknown and is being investigated by local authorities. “Everyone is safe,” assured Calhoun Sheriff Matthew Wade to local media. “They have already assembled a sizable team of individuals, including crane operators, who are diligently working on the situation.”
