Among the trio of actors who have portrayed Spider-Man in films – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland, Garfield has often been seen as somewhat different. While the original trilogy helmed by Sam Raimi continues to be highly regarded (or at least the first two films), and the current movies benefit from their presence in the MCU, the “Amazing” series received mixed reviews during its time. Nevertheless, both Garfield and Maguire had the chance to don red suits alongside Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home. According to Garfield, this opportunity offered a much-needed sense of conclusion to his portrayal of Peter Parker.

During an interview with Variety, Garfield mentioned, “I never anticipated having discussions again about possibly reprising the role of Peter Parker. I was genuinely thrilled to simply be a spectator once more. However, I received a call from Amy Pascal, Kevin Feige, and Jon Watts presenting this concept. It was instantly captivating. It seemed incredibly enjoyable, profound, surreal, and thematically engaging. At a fundamental level, as a Spider-Man enthusiast, the mere notion of having three Spider-Men sharing the screen was compelling enough.”

Regarding the film acting as a form of “redemption” for his Peter Parker, Garfield expressed, “I’m incredibly thankful. I’m just genuinely appreciative that I managed to resolve some loose ends for the Peter I embodied. I have a deep affection for that character, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with these exceptional actors, this remarkable director, and Marvel in partnership with Sony. It was a delightful experience, providing closure for me. There were numerous unanswered questions surrounding my portrayal of Peter, and where we left off. Re-entering that role allowed me to find solace for him. Additionally, it was about assisting [Holland’s] Peter and respecting his character’s journey in completing that trilogy, without diverting attention or detracting from it.”
