Anderson .Paak Submits for Legal Separation from Spouse After 13 Years

Renowned musician Anderson .Paak, recognized by his real name Brandon Paak Anderson, lodged a petition for dissolution of marriage from his spouse Jaylyn Chang after 13 years of matrimony. Citing “irreconcilable variances,” Paak is pursuing to nullify the court’s capability to allocate partner maintenance to either party, in line with legal documents acquired by Us Weekly.

Paak and Chang are parents to two sons, Soul Rasheed, 13, and Shine Tariq, 6, and Paak is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their children.

Though the date of their estrangement was not specified, the couple exchanged vows on November 23, 2010. Paak, who has been discreet about his intimate life, did not rectify reports asserting that he tied the knot in 2011. This marks Paak’s subsequent matrimony, as he was formerly wedded at the age of 21 for two years.

In a July 2016 interview with The Breakfast Club, Paak referred to Chang as the “sole important spouse.” He revealed that they crossed paths at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, where he was recruited as a band member for a gospel class. Paak attributes his devotion to music to his family, including his spouse and sons.

Chang, who migrated from Korea with no English proficiency, has been influential in Paak’s life, particularly in reconnecting him with his Korean heritage. In a discussion with Hypebeast in April 2023, Paak divulged that his union with Chang has facilitated his understanding of Korean culture.

Describing his offspring as strongly identifying with their Korean heritage, Paak underlined the significance of nurturing biracial children in a household that embraces and educates them about both their Korean and Black heritage.

Chang, a vocalist in a gospel rock band, has been a vital part of Paak’s life and the upbringing of their children. They have raised their sons in a multilingual environment, where both Korean and English are spoken.
