All About Jack Whitehall’s Unsuccessful Audition For Harry Potter
“It served as a prime example of how nepotism fails.”
On Wednesday morning, Jack and his father Michael Whitehall appeared on Capital Breakfast to discuss their upcoming TV series Fatherhood with My Father, during which the hosts conversed about the new season of Harry Potter, which is presently searching for candidates to audition.
As Jack reminisced about his childhood audition for the movies, he expressed to his dad how he “truly wished to be Harry Potter.”
However, the situation didn’t unfold as intended…
“So, he took me out of school to drive me to my audition. I hadn’t actually read the book, so I totally blew it.”
Michael erupted: “You didn’t read the book! I sacrificed so much for you. I removed you from school, I arranged for one of the top casting directors in the UK to provide you with a private one-on-one interview. You received the book two weeks prior… to be able to prepare.”
Jack disclosed that he ‘botched’ the chance when he brought up ‘Orcs’, which are typically associated with The Lord of the Rings, not Hogwarts…
He remembered: “I was asked a couple of questions and I made a reference to Orcs; that was the point I was caught. Therefore, I didn’t secure the role, it was a remarkable demonstration of how nepotism fails. Because during the open casting that anyone could enter, Emma Watson auditioned and landed the role of Hermione.”
Jack humorously remarked: “In compensation for it, Michael was cast as Voldemort.”
Jordan, Chris, and Sian inquired from Michael what profession he had envisioned for Jack, to which he replied that he had wished for him to become a barrister.
